Integrative Living–Healthy Posture

I enjoy fashion as much as any other person.  I also enjoy being healthy.  Although I had closet full of higher heels, I am finding that I feel better when I wear a lower heeled shoe.  In an effort to practice what I preach, I am focusing on a healthier, and pretty shoe for me, think ballerina flat!   I am not stating that everyone should be in certain shoes.  I am saying explore what healthy is for you.  I do know from a life long yoga practice, that a good foundation is key.  A good foundation means happy feet.  Notice how your feet feel, explore what you can do to improve your foot health.  Notice if other parts of your body feel any different when you wear shoes of different heights, shapes and arches.  Go for a walk in different shoes, how do your hips, shoulders and neck feel?  Ask your doctor and other health care support team.  Shoes are a big investment, we do tend to own a few pairs over a lifetime.

I am short and have worn higher heels forever, so I did need time to transition to lower heeled shoes.  I do notice a difference in my quality of daily health. I do keep a pair of higher heels for that special occasion (which means I pull them out and look at them longingly, but I will get over that too).  Integrative living, finding what the best version of health is for me today.  Today that means no heels!

If you do transition to a shorter heel, remember to adjust your hem length–generally that means go shorter.
