I practice healthy food modifications with the season. One way I try to maintain health is to eat my 5 to 7 fruits and vegetables a day every season. Sometimes this can seem easier in the summer because of all the fresh produce. In the cooler months I prefer warmer foods. It seems to nourish me and make me feel cozier. I make apple or other fruit sauces and add these to my oatmeal. The sauces can also be combined with toast, waffles, cottage cheese,… I use them instead of jelly or to sweeten. When I plan my meals I plan my non starchy vegetables first. I purchase cookable greens and vegetables and use them in everything from stir fries, to soups, veggie lasagnas (zucchini layered with hummus and onions-yum). Every week I make a bowl of vegetable soup. I still enjoy salads and fresh fruit, but planning my meals with warming vegetables and fruit spreads is my modification for my cold weather health plan. Keep Yourself Sacred!
