Integrative Living / Finding My Way Back To Me

Happy New Year!  I would just like to summarize some of the apps, websites and books I have used for living well and will continue to use in 2013.

There are many apps for relaxation and meditation:  Insight Time uses a Tibetan bowl that you can set per sound, time and interval for a meditation practice, you can even journal and see where other people are meditating on the planet. The app myMeditationLite is also a type of meditation timer.  If you enjoy sounds like  music, rain, whales etc.:  eSleeplite, Relaxation Helper, Nature Sound all allow you to pick your sounds combinations, duration and some video to relax or sleep.  If you are teaching a yoga class these are also useful if you forgot your music!

My favorite websites that I use to monitor how I am living in the areas of the diet and exercise are livestrong.com and weightwatchers.com.  One is free, the other requires a membership, both have apps and supportive articles.  If you shop at “health food stores” and have spelt burger buns in your refrigerator you may find live strong.com easier.  Non grocery store brands seem to come up quicker for me on livestrong.com.  Weight Watchers has products like high calcium smoothies-yummy, and cute measuring cup that are nice.  Weight Watchers also has some of the most user friendly exercise DVDs I have ever seen,  These DVDs have varying ability levels and are VERY easy to follow.  For me they have been helpful when I have been at my best physically or when I am coming back after an injury.  No fancy footwork just a good workout for your level.   I join just to buy the DVDs!

Books that I have used,  recommend and take along to all of my speaking engagements:  KRIPALU YOGA, A GUIDE O PRACTICE ON AND OFF THE MAT by Richard Faulds  ( a great resource for yoga and living), DEAN ORNISH PROGRAM FOR REVERSING HEART DISEASE by Dr. Dean Ornish (the medical protocols to reverse heart disease and now some cancers-also practical),  STRUCTURAL YOGA THERAPY by Mukunda Stiles, just good information.  I have trained at or with the author or someone affiliated with these books/programs.

I hope this helps.  I look forward to posting more about helpful tools for living well.  Let me know what you think!
