During the past few weeks two deaths were experienced within my circle of friends. The end of one life was celebrated in the traditional way, the other not. Although I generally do not attend end of life services, I attended the services of Linnea Jepsen. I knew her services would be different. I also felt compelled to celebrate the life of someone who was one of the pioneers of yoga and ayurveda long before anyone really heard these words.
Her services were a celebration of life. This woman, changed and literally grew a community simply by cooking in her kitchen and living her yoga. Religious leaders from India and Swamis came and sent messages for her services. Hundreds celebrated her life with joyful tears. She was instrumental in the Wise Earth School Of Ayurveda (the first school in the United States), and therefore touched hundreds/thousands of lives within both nationally and internationally. All by cooking in her kitchen. Doing exactly what she felt she was called to do despite what the world thought. She found her truth and lived it.
It still brings me joy to think of this event because it was a celebration of life. However, I must also wonder, what would our lives be like if we all found out truth and lived it. If one woman cooking in her kitchen, working from home, before the era of computers could “create a village”……what if we all found our truth and lived?
If I have not posted in some time it is because I took some time to pause and think about this and am continuing to do so. Part of my yoga training included an exploration of death as a reflection of life. How can I more fully live my truth, how can I more deeply experience joy,…It does not have to be a big answer, sometimes the simplest, most quiet way is the best way. Enjoy and live well!
